The IB Core offers interdisciplinary and holistic methods for student development in a wide range of areas. Every IB Diploma Candidate must successfully complete IB Core requirements.
1 year (2nd semester of junior year and 1st semester of senior year)
Students examine and synthesize the nature of knowledge across multiple disciplines
They explore and reflect upon the role of perception, emotion, language, reason, faith, imagination, intuition, and memory in the construction of scientific, mathematical, historical, and artistic knowledge, as well as in the formation of religious and indigenous belief systems
2 TOK assessments:
1 essay (externally assessed)
1 project (internally assessed and moderated)
Creativity, Activity, Service
Meaningful experiences outside of the classroom which provide opportunities for self development, collaboration, accomplishment and enjoyment
Organize and complete one CAS project
Reflect on experiences and personal growth

Students select a topic based on a subject area of interest
Completed outside of class (approx. 40 hours)
Research and develop a line of inquiry
Work with an advisor throughout the process
Draft a paper of no more than 4,000 words
Reflect on the research and writing processes
Externally assessed by IB examiners
