Fort Leavenworth is a United States Army installation located in Leavenworth County, Kansas. Fort Leavenworth overlooks the Missouri River on the border of Kansas and Missouri. Its campus setting, open green landscape, and hometown friendliness enhance Fort Leavenworth as a historical landmark.
Built in 1827, it is the oldest active United States Army post west of Washington, D.C., and the oldest permanent settlement in Kansas. Fort Leavenworth has been historically known as the "Intellectual Center of the Army." Fort Leavenworth encourages visitors to our historic post, and you are welcome here! Don't be intimidated by our access procedures, as these security measures are in place to keep all of us safe.
Access to Fort Leavenworth
If you do not have a DoD ID card or Common Access Card (CAC) as listed on the Department of Defense (DoD) Issued ID Cards website, you will need to obtain a temporary visitor's pass. The Fort Leavenworth Visitor Control Center (VCC) is no longer issuing paper visitor passes; all are now electronic.
Using the Online Visitor Registration Portal, follow the prompts for personal information and visit details. A “pass” will be attached to the visitor’s identification in their security scanning system. Here are some tips for the system.
Select "USD 207 Event"
You cannot register more than 10 days in advance.
As of May 7, 2025, a REAL ID form of identification is required.
You’ll be notified via text message if your visitor pass is approved, or if you should go to the Visitor Center to request access.
When you arrive at the gate, you must present the same driver’s license or passport you registered with online.
Visitors may still use the VCC to obtain a pass. At the VCC, reception clerks will verify that the vehicle driver has:
A valid license
Registration
Proof of insurance
All passengers, 16 and over, have either a driver's license or other approved form of photo ID.
Following a routine background check, visitors will receive a 'digital' visitor's pass allowing temporary access to enter the installation. Contact the Visitor Control Center (VCC) at 913-684-3600 with questions.
