Is Fort Leavenworth School District associated with the Leavenworth School District?
Fort Leavenworth School District and Leavenworth School District are two separate districts. However, students who complete 9th grade will attend Leavenworth High School in their 10th through 12th grade years. This is due to a Kansas law prohibiting Fort Leavenworth from including a high school in the district.

Fort Leavenworth is located on the Kansas and Missouri border, just northwest of Kansas City. The location of Fort Leavenworth allows our faculty a wide variety of living options in the surrounding Kansas City metro areas of both Kansas and Missouri. We are a short 20-minute commute from the Zona Rosa shopping area, a 25-minute commute from the Legends, and a 35-minute commute from Downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Whether you prefer city living or a small-town atmosphere, Fort Leavenworth’s surrounding areas provide a variety of living options suited to all needs.
Is Fort Leavenworth a private school district? Can only students of the military attend?
Fort Leavenworth schools are public schools funded by the State of Kansas. Students who are children of active-duty military personnel and who are children of USD 207 staff may attend Fort Leavenworth schools.

As of September 2025, the Fort Leavenworth School District is home to 1,564 students from PreK through 9th grade, with an average class size of 19 students.
Is there a Mentor Program?
Yes! At USD 207, we have both a mentor and a buddy teacher for all new teachers. Our impact coaches serve as mentors, supporting through observations and formal meetings, as well as leading monthly new-teacher induction meetings. Buddy teachers are classroom teachers (same grade level, subject, etc.) who provide more formal support.
Do teachers have to follow a scripted curriculum? Do teachers have the ability to create their own lessons based on the state standards?
We are given a curriculum for both math and reading that aligns with state standards. However, this is viewed as a tool to guide instruction rather than a “script” to follow word-for-word. Teachers are viewed as professionals. How you use the curriculum should best align with your current students and their specific academic needs.
What does parent involvement look like in the Fort Leavenworth School District?
Fort Leavenworth has exceptional parent involvement! Our parents are a huge support system for students. We have several consistent parent volunteers who help throughout the building. Additionally, turnout for school events, including assemblies, back-to-school nights, and conferences, is unprecedented.
Do new teachers have an opportunity to participate in district initiatives, committee work, curriculum development, and other activities?
Absolutely! The Fort Leavenworth school district encourages new teachers to be a part of district work, including guiding coalitions, leadership teams, and curriculum development teams. The district values the input of new teachers and encourages participation.
What do Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) or collaborations look like in USD 207?
PLC is a time for teachers to get together in subject- and grade-level teams. We analyze data, discuss individual student progress, explore interventions for remediation or acceleration opportunities, and develop plans to implement these interventions. We also discuss curriculum implementation within the subject area and across the curriculum.
What types of technology tools are available for teachers and students?
Every student and teacher is equipped with their own device, as Fort Leavenworth is a one-to-one school district. In addition, every classroom has a smartboard, and teachers can access iPads, graphing calculators with rovers, SMART document cameras, 3D printers, software, and technology programs.
What types of extracurricular activities are available for coaching/sponsorship?
Opportunities for extracurricular activities include coaching football, volleyball, basketball, track and field, cross-country, and debate. Staff may also sponsor yearbook, drama, Odyssey of the Mind, FIRST Tech Challenge, Robotics Club, Running Club, Creative Technologies, and JROTC. In addition, staff are encouraged to participate in the District Leadership Team, Building Leadership Teams, and become representatives in the Kansas Education System Accreditation (KESA).
Are principals engaged with the teachers and students? Are principals visible within the school community?
Principals are very involved in the teacher and student populations. Due to our tight-knit community, principals are well-acquainted with each student and their family. They are aware of and celebrate classroom goals, frequently stopping in to engage with student learning. Fort Leavenworth students know who the principals are, and they realize they are not people to be feared but people who care about their academic, emotional, and physical success.
