7th & 8th Grade Performance
The SMS 7th and 8th grade bands performed at halftime of the October 2nd SHS football game. These students have been working on pep-style music, cheers, and learning how to march since the beginning of school.
Congratulations to the students who participated in the Holton Honor Band on Saturday February 1st! Band students from all over northeast Kansas rehearsed their music and put on a concert in the afternoon. First, second, third, and fourth year band students from Hiawatha, Atchison, Eudora, Topeka, Jackson Heights, Marysville, Mission Valley, Royal Valley, Hanover, Jeff West, Washington County, and Holton participated in the event. Distinguished band directors from the area lead the ensembles.
Congratulations to the 8th grade band students who were selected to perform in the Northeast KMEA Middle Level Honor Band! Taylor Menold (euphonium), Abbey Gugelman (bassoon), Alexia Hayden (clarinet), and Harper Schmelzle (percussionn) rehearsed and performed at Topeka Seaman High School on December 7th.
Thank you to the Sabetha PTO for awarding the grant that allowed the SMS bands to purchase a classroom set of "Bach and Before for Band" chorale books!
Sabetha band students with at least one year of band under their belts were invited to participate in the 6th Annual Band Day on Friday August 2nd at SMS. Students ranging from 6th grade through college freshmen rehearsed five pieces of music for a total of three hours and put on a concert afterwards.
The combined SMS 7th and 8th grade bands performed at the Hiawatha Middle School Festival on Saturday April 13th. They performed their pieces and received a critique afterwards from Mr. Gene Barrett, retired Baileyville band director. They received "I" ratings from both judges.
Pieces performed: Bugs (Fireflies, Daddy Long Legs, Butterflies, March of the Ants) by David Shaffer and Dancing Snakes by Neil Simon
Mrs. Topp applied for a fall 2018 PTO Classroom Enhancement Grant and received two classroom sets of the Foundations for Superior Performance band warm up books for SMS and SHS.
