Wednesday October 16th was a beautiful day for the Holton Marching Invitation. SHS performed at 1:40pm and received a II rating from judges Eric Bradshaw (Topeka High band director) and Philip Kaul (De Soto assistant band director). You can watch the performance here.
The marching band traveled to Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, to perform in the Baker Marching Festival on Wednesday October 9th. This is the 6th year that Sabetha has participated in this event. The band performed and was judged by three veteran band directors from Kansas, and the band earned a "II" rating.
The Sabetha Blue Jay Marching Band show for 2019 is "Sound of Simon." At our first home game we performed about half of the music we have planned for the whole show: Bridge Over Troubled Water, You Can Call Me Al, Still Crazy After All These Years, and 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.
The SHS Marching Band attended camp July 29th-31st at Sabetha High School. The new freshmen members got to meet the members of their sections and learn field marching technique, and everyone began working on the 2019 show, Sound of Simon, which features six different Paul Simon songs. The show includes music from Bridge Over Troubled Water, You Can Call Me Al, Late in the Evening, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, Still Crazy After All These Years, and Sound of Silence. The students all agreed the music is more difficult than past marching shows but are excited to start working on it.
Sabetha band students with at least one year of band under their belts were invited to participate in the 6th Annual Band Day on Friday August 2nd at SMS. Students ranging from 6th grade through college freshmen rehearsed five pieces of music for a total of three hours and put on a concert afterwards. The high school band was well-represented and the high school students did a great job helping younger band members in sectionals and full band rehearsal.
