I am setting up one-on-one appointments with any 4th grader who is interested in joining band in 5th grade. You get to try playing each of the band instruments to see what what suits you!
Parents - please click here to schedule an instrument try out. They are taking place from May 11th, 2022 through May 26th, 2022.
Mondays & Fridays - all band students have band
Tuesdays - only clarinets & saxophones have band
Wednesdays - only trumpets & trombones have band
Thursdays - only percussion have band
Students are free to take their instruments home whenever they wish; they just need to make sure they're back at school when they have band class. Students SHOULD be taking their instrument home at least once a week to practice individually.
Check out these YouTube channels for lots of great band information, help, and play alongs. Both of these channels belong to band teachers, and these teachers have posted videos that are exactly what I teach in person.
Description from Dr. Selfridge's YouTube channel:
Welcome to Dr. Selfridge's YouTube Classroom! I am a music teacher and I post these videos to help my students learn songs. I'm a professional saxophone player, but I try to demonstrate for my students basic skills of playing all the band instruments. I hope you find these videos helpful. Your constructive comments and questions are welcome! Have fun and KEEP PRACTICING!
Mr. Glynn is a band teacher who developed his own beginning band curriculum and has several excellent how-to videos for just starting to play your instrument.
Kjos IPS (Interactive Practice Studio) is the FREE software that accompanies our band books (Tradition of Excellence). This video is a basic tutorial on how to create an account and use the program.
