After my graduation in the Biology Degree (2005-2010), I joined the lab of Prof. Lopez-Novoa and Dr. Rodriguez-Barbero of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Salamanca, as a collaborator student. I completed a Doctorate Postgrad obtaining the "Grado of Salamanca", during those years (2010-2011), developing a research project focused on the role of endoglin isoforms in endothelial cells. During the academic year 2011-2012 I did the Master of Secondary school teaching at the University of Salamanca, while I was still working at the lab.
Thanks to a Formation of Professional researcher (FPI) fellowship in 2012 of the Ministry of Economy and Competitivity of Spain, I joined Dra. Alicia G. Arroyo ́s lab at the National Cardiovascular Research Centre Carlos III (CNIC). I conducted some works on the matrix metalloproteinases field (Moreno V et al, J Cell Sci, 2014; Gomez-Escudero J, et al, J Cell Sci, 2017), and also the interplay between metabolism and angiogenesis in endothelial cells through the modulation of cell junctions by local ATP production (Gómez-Escudero J et al; Sci Reports, 2019). In 2014 I obtained a mobility fellowship of the Ministry of Economy and Competitivity of Spain, to be a visiting researcher at Prof. Peter Carmeliet ́s lab at Vesalius Research Centre of KU Leuven in Belgium.
In 2017, after getting my PhD, I joined the group of Prof. Kairbaan Hoodivala-Dilke at Barts Cancer Institute of Queen Mary University of London, as Postdoctoral Research Assistant. I studied the changes on the secretome of the endothelial cells in response to chemotherapy in breast cancer and how they could determine the clonal evolution and the acquisition of resistance by the malignant cells (submitted to Angiogenesis journal). In addition to this project, I developed a project of developmental angiogenesis changing the paradigm of FAK signaling, as ewe described it as an upstream regulator of ERG transcriptional factor through ubiquitin modulation (D'Amico G, Gomez-Escudero, J. et al, 2022), and I have collaborated in several works from my group (Pedrosa R et al, Can Res, 2019; Demircioglu F et al, Nat Com, 2020; Lechertier T, et al, Nat Com, 2020,...). In addition to this, I have supervised a Final Grade Work of a BSc student, and a MSc student. Furthermore, I was facilitator of Practice Base Learning lessons (PBLs) of Metabolism of second year for the Faculty of Medicine of Queen Mary University of London since 2019, I was member of the Postdoc Forum and of the Social Committee of Barts Cancer Institute, while I am studying the Law Degree on the Distance University of Spain.
In May 2022, I was hired as Doctor Scientist at CBMSO of Madrid, working on cancer prevention linked to BRCA2 mutations in breast cancer (Vugic et al, NatCom,2023; Minello A, Gomez-Escudero, J., et al, Nat Com, 2025).
In 2025 I joined University of Salamanca as PDTI Ramón y Cajal in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, where I carry research activities in alternative treatments for vascular modulation in brain and lung metastasis derived from breast and colon tumors. I am part of IBSAL, a GIR. I teach at the Biology Faculty in the grade of Biology in the subject of Biochemistry, and in the European Master of Lifeline Wellbeing, and in the Faculty of Chemistry in the Degrees of Chemistry and Chemistry Engineering in the Subjects of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
