According to the World Health Organization, more than 8 million people die from tobacco use each year. The majority of tobacco-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, which are often targets of intensive tobacco industry interference and marketing. Second-hand smoke exposure is also implicated in adverse health outcomes, causing 1.2 million deaths annually. Nearly half of all children breathe air polluted by tobacco, and 65,000 children die each year due to illnesses related to second-hand smoke.
Today, May 31, 2025, marks the celebration of the annual World No Tobacco Day. This year’s campaign, “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products,” aims to debunk and uncover the deceptive strategies used by the tobacco and nicotine industries to expand their customer base and lure people in.
Unite with us as we commemorate this year’s campaign to “Unmask the Appeal.” Support the movement and be an advocate of a smoke-free world.
