HACIENDA LUISITA, IBIGAY SA MGA MAGSASAKA!

November 16, 2024, marks the second decade of the murder of 14 farmers in the Hacienda Luisita Massacre which is one of the bloodiest peasant-struggle for land in the 20th century. 

The Arroyo-US regime’s violent response against the peaceful protest of peasant workers is a manifestation of how our country neglects the voice of our farmers and favors those in power. 

Since the start of the Hacienda Luisita operation, two Aquinos have served as Presidents of the country. One promised fair land redistribution, and the other reserved his opinions to himself.

Now that our Pres. Marcos Jr. continues to promise for a better agriculture sector, thousands of hectares in the Hacienda are now under commercial exploitation for real estate megaprojects of Aboitiz Infracapital. 

Even if the Supreme Court’s decision last 2012 favored the Hacienda Luisita farmers, justice and total land redistribution to the farmers are nowhere to be found. 

The victims of Hacienda are reminders that the farmers’ plight is our plight too. We, The Voice of UPLB DevComSoc are one with our peasants, families of Hacienda Luisita Massacre victims, and advocacy groups in amplifying the need for accountability and genuine land ownership reforms of ancestral lands for true peasant ownership.

In times of forgetfulness, we remember. We will always remember.
