I reviewed the assignments of 15 classmates, comparing their photographs to mine, and here are my observations. Each classmate's unique photography style beautifully reflects their own individuality and personal story. They have done an excellent job of creating and selecting images that align with composition requirements and capture the essence of significant moments or unforgettable places.
The photographs were taken in diverse scenarios, and what stood out was how various elements in each picture enhanced the subject, making it even more impactful. The arrangement of photos can influence how appealing they are to viewers. Among them, I was particularly impressed by Stephen John Agtoto's work. His photographs, taken across two different countries, demonstrate exceptional quality and a mastery of composition. He is one of the most skilled photographers in our class, setting a standard I hope to achieve by the end of this course.
That said, the faculty-in-charge's photos remain the benchmark for high-quality photography. However, I am confident that my classmates are on the path to eventually reaching that level. Observing their work has inspired me to push myself further, both creatively and technically. Photography, much like any art form, demands discipline. It reminds me of museum paintings, each representing a pivotal moment in history that is often long forgotten.
Overall, my classmates' photos provide a strong foundation for their journey in photography. While I have seen some images that lack thoughtful composition either taken spontaneously or chosen for their visual appeal despite being messy, I am confident these issues will diminish as they continue to learn and evaluate their work. In the coming weeks or months, I believe their growth will shine through. Witnessing their progress motivates me to explore my own creativity even more. Mastering photography, after all, will only amplify the collective artistic potential we share.
This photo demonstrates an effective use of depth of field to highlight focus and perspective. By employing a shallow depth, the keyboard in the foreground becomes the central subject, while the softly blurred background offers context without drawing attention away. The diagonal composition of the shot introduces a sense of movement and dynamism. However, the dim lighting lowers the contrast, softening the details on the keyboard. Enhancing the brightness or adding a light source could sharpen the image and improve clarity. Overall, while the focus and perspective are well-executed, better lighting and contrast would elevate the visual quality.

This image showcases a luxurious resort with a balanced combination of vertical and horizontal elements. The cascading water features create a sense of rhythm, drawing the viewer's gaze upwards to the villa, which serves as the central focus. A significant portion of the frame is taken up by the sky, conveying a sense of openness but also introducing negative space that might benefit from a lower vantage point. The natural color palette stands out, with the vibrant blue of the pool contrasting beautifully against the earthy hues of the architecture and greenery. However, the overcast sky results in subdued lighting, which diminishes contrast. Enhancing the interplay of light and shadow could bring more depth and energy to the scene.
This image masterfully conveys movement and texture through the ripples on the water's surface, offering a composition that is both lively and serene. The koi fish, partially hidden by reflections, introduces depth and mystery, harmonizing with the water's fluid motion. The color palette is captivating, with the warm golden tones of the fish standing out against the cooler greens and blues of the reflections. The rule of thirds is skillfully applied, as the slightly off-center position of the fish enhances visual balance. However, some areas appear slightly blurred, which might detract from sharpness. Utilizing a faster shutter speed could boost clarity without losing the sense of motion.
This photograph effectively conveys a scenic view with a pronounced sense of depth, drawing the viewer’s attention from the foreground structures to the impressive volcano in the distance. Natural framing elements, such as the overhanging tree branches and the stone wall, create borders that enrich the composition. The textured clouds add visual interest to the sky, complementing the mountain’s solid presence. However, the presence of power lines slightly disrupts the scene's harmony, which might have been mitigated by adjusting the angle. The lighting is skillfully balanced, with sunlight illuminating the details without causing overexposure. Overall, this is a thoughtfully composed landscape image with minor distractions.
This banana bread exudes a charming, rustic aesthetic with its golden-brown crust and caramelized banana slices adorning the top. The texture appears rich and moist, complemented by a subtly crisp outer layer. Displayed on a cooling rack, it radiates a warm, fresh-from-the-oven vibe. If the intention was to craft a visually delightful and homemade banana bread, it’s undoubtedly a triumph! Nagutom tuloy ako! Wondering kung ano kaya ang lasa niyan ...
Discipline is undeniably essential, even in photography. To excel in creative landscapes, one must commit to long-term growth and consistent progress. Certain principles that apply to both passion and profession. By the end of this course, I am eager to uncover the boundaries of my creative potential. While my assignment photos are a good start and provide a solid foundation, they represent just the beginning of what I aspire to achieve. In other words, there is always room to grow. I aim to keep improving and exploring new creative possibilities in my photography. I must admit that I still have much to learn as a photographer. I am grateful for attending this MMS173 course.
One of the areas I need to focus on is diversifying my creativity by exploring different styles. These styles are emphasized in the course manual and supporting references. Up to this point, I have stuck to what I know, but that approach risks leading to stagnation that is a plateau where progress diminishes. This comfort zone has been a challenge for some time, and I am determined to break out of it soon. If I have the chance to visit another country, I would like to take a photograph that encapsulates the essence of the trip, whether through its environment or iconic landmarks. By experimenting with new approaches and adopting diverse techniques, I can expand my horizons. The first assignment in this course has already laid a strong foundation for my journey toward creative growth.
Ultimately, this course is designed to have an adequate understanding of the theory and concepts behind photography. I am grateful for my classmates who share their experiences and personal stories through their precious photographs. While their photos may be modest now, I am curious about the remarkable progress they will make in the future. Their journey motivates me to improve my work as I refine the techniques taught in this course. Wishing myself and everyone on this journey the best of luck. Here's to a successful and creative adventure!
