MMS 172 has truly opened my eyes to the intricacies of audio production in ways that go beyond just technical skills. When I first enrolled in this course, I set clear expectations for myself: I wanted to understand how sound works from the very basics up to more advanced concepts, build my listening skills to better appreciate fine audio details, and get hands-on experience with audio recording and editing software to apply effective techniques. Looking back now, I can say that my experience has been fulfilling and eye-opening, although I’m still very much in the process of developing and refining my abilities.
One of the most valuable things I’ve realized is the importance of grounding myself in the fundamentals of sound. This course emphasized attentive listening, the structure of soundscapes, and how to organize sounds effectively. Even though I am still learning, these elements have fundamentally changed the way I approach audio production. It is no longer just about pressing record or applying filters—I now listen actively and think critically about every sound layer, which has made my work more intentional and creative. My diverse taste in music, which I shared in my self-introduction, has been a source of inspiration and motivation. It was fascinating to see the variety of equipment others use for recording—from professional-grade mics and interfaces to more humble, budget-friendly setups. This diversity sparked inspiration and reminded me that great production is as much about creativity and skill as it is about technology. I find myself learning not only from the course materials but from the personal journeys and experiments of my peers.
Observing the final projects before the deadline gave me a broader perspective on the collective talent and growth among us. MMS 172 has provided a foundation not just for academic credit but for practical skills and mindset shifts that will benefit me in future projects and professional work.
Looking forward, I am genuinely interested in continuing to pursue better audio production techniques. This course has sparked a curiosity and passion that I want to nurture.
