Over the course of my special project, I observed, designed, and implemented my review lesson utilising gamification and multimodal learning. Not only did I help the students with their review, but I also established a connection with them, albeit with a few bumps and challenges along the way.

Conclusions

The major challenge I faced was the lack of time I had to plan and observe the learners. Though my sickness was unavoidable and sudden, had I been more prepared, I could have created a backup plan. However, I was advised to focus more on getting well due to being bedridden.

Aside from being unprepared, another challenge I encountered was the lack of supplies they had for the activity I wanted to do. Although I asked Mrs. Beula if they had the proper supplies, and she assured me that they did, when it came to the actual implementation, many of the whiteboard markers did not have ink, which caused issues, as they did not want to share the markers. During the implementation, due to this oversight, I decided to ask the students to verbally tell me the answers instead, which they were able to do. It improved the learning environment, as they were all able to answer me correctly, while showing enthusiasm, motivated by the rewards. Additionally, the amount of candy I gave caused the students to become hyperactive, so I took out the candy incentive towards the middle of the lesson. Students were not discouraged, however, since they knew that they would be able to get more candy at the end of the lesson.

Through this, the project implementation demonstrated to me the importance of adaptability in design. Thanks to the use of the ADDIE Model, my lesson plan was flexible enough that it could adjust to the unexpected challenges I encountered during the implementation. Not only are inclusivity and motivation important in creating an effective lesson plan, but flexibility and adaptability are essential too, especially in these situations where learners are visibly more motivated to learn when exposed to various modalities. This experience allowed me to develop a deeper appreciation for the value of interactive learning strategies in education.

With this, I achieved my personal and project objectives. I created a review lesson using Multimodal Learning Strategies, utilising Canva and its resources, such as graphics and videos, to enable students to gain a deeper understanding of key concepts related to their review plan. The various question types and method of reviewing also accommodated to the students' attention spans, improving their learning outcomes by helping them to integrate their knowledge in a variety of ways, allowing me to utilise the Multiple Intelligences Theory properly.

As for my personal objectives, I gained a deeper understanding of my educational philosophy, further emphasising my appreciation for learner-centred, motivational, and fun learning approaches. Not only did I acquire the necessary skills to assist students with their work, but I also established a respectful relationship with them, thereby strengthening my educational and professional skills.

Recommendations

Based on my observations, I recommend introducing more modes of learning and combinations of these, especially in scenarios such as these, where there are neurodivergent learners. Various learning modes enable all students to learn, regardless of their individual needs. Adopting flexible frameworks, such as the ADDIE model, allows for ongoing adjustments based on learners' needs. The ADDIE model will enable educators to adjust their methods and materials in real-time, not just based on post-lesson feedback. Additionally, the use of rewards allowed the students to associate their learning with positive reinforcement as they were encouraged and motivated to answer, ensuring they were more engaged in the lesson plan.

Based on that, it is evident that there is a need for alternative educational programs for neurodivergent learners in the Philippines. An example of how the state of neurodivergent learning in the Philippines can improve is Senate Bill No. 194. It is titled, "Neurodivergent People's Rights Act of 2025", authored by Senator Vicente C. Sotto III. This bill aims to ensure that neurodivergent individuals have an improved quality of life in all critical aspects, including healthcare, employment, and education. Diagnosis, therapy, and support services will also be free for neurodiverse people, regardless of age. Education for neurodiverse learners will become more inclusive and equitable, with the addition of more and the upgrading of existing special education centres, incorporating transition programs, giving school administrators and educators proper training on how neurodiversity works, among many others. Overall, this bill aims to make all aspects of life more neurodiverse-affirming for the community, providing neurodiverse individuals with more opportunities.

Future Actions

In the future, I aim to explore the use of technology in educational settings. I want to collaborate with game developers in producing a game that is both entertaining and educational. Although my lesson plan and materials were inspired by trivia games such as Papa's Quiz, I have always been fascinated by educational games like Minecraft Education and Kerbal Space Program, as they can incorporate my favourite form of entertainment, making learning both educational and fun. In conclusion, this special project deepened my fascination with gamified learning while strengthening my appreciation for inclusive and flexible learning approaches.

If I had the chance to re-do my project, what would I change?

If I could redo my project proposal, whether I would have gotten sick again or not, I would have created a backup plan in case I could not be there to observe the students. I would have more discussions with Mrs. Beula over text regarding the students, being more thorough with my questions regarding the materials available in the classroom. I would have also created a proper feedback model based on Kirpatrick's Four-Level as recommended by my classmates, as that would have allowed for a more in-depth analysis of the learning outcomes, retention, and the overall results of the lesson implementation.

I would have also requested a more extended implementation period, creating additional lesson plans and activities to reinforce students' learning through further review. I would have been able to utilise other Multimodal Learning strategies and methods besides gamification. I especially wanted to include one of my initial proposed lesson plans, which would allow students to utilise their creative skills by creating a diorama based on the review lesson, for example, using styrofoam to create models of planets, explaining the final product to their peers.

I would also have wanted to ensure that the students are prepared for peer learning and group work by incorporating more lessons that allow them to get used to working together rather than individually. It not only reinforces their knowledge but also enables them to practice social skills such as communication and sharing.

Version 2.0

Based on my reflections, I then created Version 2.0 of my initial lesson plan. Since I did not anticipate that the students would struggle to work effectively in groups, I made a modified version of the lesson plan that allowed students to work individually, writing their answers on paper rather than on the whiteboards. Additionally, since the overall lesson materials were effective, instead of removing content from the slideshow, I created a template that can be used for future reference. I also added a new question format that requires students to answer questions based on the provided images. This addition furthers the application of Dual Coding Theory, as students are able to retain information more effectively using both written and visual formats, thereby enhancing memory retention and learning.
