Sven Günter has gained 25 years of professional experience in tropical forestry. After field work in Bolivia for his PhD and several years as a research coordinator for a large interdisciplinary research group in Ecuador he became Co-Director of the “Latin-American Chair of Protected Areas and Biological Corridors” at CATIE, Costa Rica.
In cooperation with GIZ, he focused on questions how to integrate conservation and sustainable development in tropical landscapes. He is associated professor at the Technical University of Munich.
In his current position at the Thünen-Institute in Hamburg, he aims at contributing to the development of science-based solutions for sustainable policies in the field of multipurpose forestry, ecosystem services and livelihoods in tropical forest landscapes conducting field research in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
