As the information and communications technology (ICT) arm of UP Manila, the HRDO collaborated with the Information Management Service (IMS) Office for the conduct of 3-day training on Microsoft 365 intended for employees of UP Manila conducted on June 21, 25 and 26, 2024 via Zoom from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN.
IMS Director, Mr. Marbert John C. Marasigan welcomed the participants in his opening remarks during the first day of the training. Dir. Marasigan encouraged all participants to maximize the opportunity to learn about and utilize the services that the University is subscribed to. Understanding the use and applications of Microsoft 365 will help the employees get to know the features included in MS office, such as business email, online file storage, shared calendars, and MS applications. Further, this will also help employees be accustomed to the Microsoft tools as additional and alternative options in fulfilling their day-to-day tasks.
On the Day 1 of the training, IMS Supervising Administrative Officer, Ms. Lorina T. Alcid, gave an overview of Microsoft 365 and its similarities and differences with Google Workspace.
Mr. Diosdado B. Calmada introduced OneDrive by navigating through the folders, locations, and accessibility. He also presented its advantages and disadvantages as compared to Google Drive.
Followed by an exploration of the uncommonly used features and capabilities of Microsoft Word and Excel, discussed by Mr. John Mari D. Padre Juan and Mr. Joseph Ian N. Ocampo, respectively.
On the second day of the workshop, Ms. Marjorie V. Perez, Mr. Ronnel Escarez, and Mr. Noriel S. Nulud walked the participants through the wide potentials of Microsoft Powerpoint, Visio, and Teams.
The third day of the Microsoft 365 Training concentrated on Microsoft OneNote, Forms, and SharePoint. The resource speakers, Ms. Reyna Jane F. De Leon, Mr. Diosdado B. Calmada, and Mr. Karlo Edison R. Aurelio introduced the sites by relating them to its respective Google Workspace equivalents and how each one is functional and convenient depending on the user’s preferences.
The three half-day training was closed by a remarks by the HRDO Learning and Development Section, Ms. Jeah May O. Badeo, who encouraged the participants to put their learnings into practice, as the sites and softwares are not actually completely new to them.
