The University of the Philippines Manila stays resolute to its dedication in pursuit of sustained excellence in public service. In line with this, UP Manila HRDO held a Completed Staff Work (CSW) training for executive offices staff. To continuously provide efficient quality service, a critical element is the capability of employees to comprehensively analyze challenges encountered and devise solutions and remedies.
The HRDO Learning & Development Section engaged with an Extension Specialist from UP National Engineering Center to lead an intensive CSW training for executive officers. Mr. Pepito Dizon spearheaded the training. Mr. Dizon, known as Sir Peps is an esteemed member of the Technical Working Group and he is also responsible for developing the UP Strategic Plan 2023-2029.
The participants were welcomed by HRDO Director Dr. Michael Antonio F. Mendoza, DDM, MA, with his opening remarks, and they were also graced with the presence of the UP Manila Chancellor Dr. Michael L. Tee, and a virtual inspirational message from the UP Vice President for Administration Dr. Augustus C. Resurreccion.
Sir Peps brought with him a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with the participants. The session proper started with a discussion on the general concept of Completed Staff Work, its principles, and followed by an interesting discussion on CSW as an Effective Decision-Making and Management Tool, introducing it as The Pakbet Way.
The training highlighted the importance of delivering solutions and recommendations besides analyzing the challenges faced at work— a practice essential for effective decision-making and management processes. The executive officers were also encouraged to participate actively and share their new knowledge, insights, and experiences. To reinforce the training, Sir Peps challenged everyone to participate during his discussion by asking, suggesting, or just simply reacting. Simple prizes are in store for the most participative trainee at the end of the program.
The executive offices staff were divided into groups to collaborate with each other. They were tasked to brainstorm collaboratively to create hypothetical scenarios to find the root cause and come up with solutions by using the methods discussed by the speaker. Each group assigned a representative to present their respective outputs and Mr. Dizon gave feedback that allowed the participants to learn from one another.
The provided activities allowed the participants a practical understanding of the principles of CSW, enabling them also to apply its importance in real-time problem-solving practices.
Through the UP Manila HRDO L&D initiatives such as the CSW training, the university ensures that employees, staff and public servants and well-equipped to duly fulfill their responsibilities with excellence.
