The last leg of the course was the portion of the course I found the most challenging. I find post-production to be the most challenging part of the class as it is also the most technical aspect of the process which is probably why I also had the most difficulty with the multitracking and final project assessments. Although this position of the lessons was the most difficult, it was, weirdly enough, my favorite as I was most interested in this part of audio and music production giving me a glimpse of a fraction of what my favorite producers, musicians, and even podcasters do on a daily basis. I also had a lot of fun looking into other classmates' work in the multitracking assignment and even the sound meter trials form. It's sad that we were a bit rushed with the course and could have learned a lot more. However, I appreciate the knowledge I could absorb and the insight it has provided me.
This course has been interesting, and it would have been cool to have been able to continue. However, I think we were able to encapsulate a lot in our short time together. I wish it was longer so we had more time to marinate in what we learned. However, it was definitely a good introduction to the world of audio. I believe I would have linked more in-person or even in-call options for class because the in-person activity that was held was very far. I would have loved to go, but it was just not practical. Breing able to have optional Zoom calls could have been cool so that we could see real-time mixing or editing.
Looking back at these last three months, I believe I should have focused more on a technical course such as this. I think I would have changed the timelines and deadlines I had set for myself to be able to focus more on this course. Although I still think I was able to learn a lot and was truly impacted by the past three months, I think I could have improved my work even more than I have.
As much as I want to believe I performed at the higher end of the class, I believe I started in the middle of the pack and ended there. It was hard juggling school this term with my hectic work schedule and an unexpected funeral added on top of it, and I truly think my time was stretched thin, at least these last two months. I also know I have not had the easiest time finding time to work. I definitely need to be on top of my schedule and work again, but I also truly believe I did the best I could, even if it was not top-tier work.
Retrospectively, I think I held up to most of what I said in my self-introduction and blog. I still hold the same view, especially where allowing us to compare and contrast work with our classmates is a helpful tool to see what kind of work our classmates can produce, as it also pushes them to do better. For the most part, I had fun making my final project, and I would have liked to attend a face-to-face session.
In terms of how I did and how I thought I was going to do, I definitely reached my expectations but did not reach my hopes. However, I would like to not give up or leave my learning to end here, as I still would like to reach my hopes of being knowledgeable and would still like to further deepen my knowledge. I reached my expectations of the class by completing the requirement and participating in some of the discussion forums.
In comparison to others, I definitely fall middle of the pack. I've seen portfolios where my classmates did amazing jobs in not just their descriptive details and blogs but as well as their work in general. I even took note of some of their equipment because I was amazed at the quality of their work. There were defiantly a few portfolios that could have been better or at least more organized, as they were hard to look through and navigate. I haven't been able to see anyone that used me as a sample in assignment 1b, but for all the other assignments that I saw, they were either what I expected or pretty great.
As a BAMS student, I believe that this course is needed as it falls under the multimedia category and will definitely be useful in the future. Maybe not so much for me, but it is also nice to know. Being able to have even a little skill with audio is something that I can use to my advantage and that can increase the quality of my work, which I greatly appreciate.
I plan to passively continue learning about audio productions, most likely through YouTube videos and similar, possibly recording music (not seriously), and making a few podcast episodes here and there with my friends. I learned a lot that I can apply to these practices and look forward to learning and practicing more.
