This page will overlook a selection of some of the Examination Unit’s employees in the sub-page section to “Employees”. With the moving of the Examination Unit from Montreal Road to 345 Laurier Avenue, it made employees like Oliver Strachey benefit. It was difficult for those like Oliver Strachey who had a difficulty transporting to the Montreal Road location.[1] It also benefitted other employers like Susan Abelson, who lived in Sandy Hill, not far from the Examination Unit itself.
In researching the Examination Unit, I, Christine Tomlinson examined microfilms of Ottawa Directories from 1940-1945. In doing so, I was able to map out some of the employees that worked at the Examination Unit during this time. In order to look at this further, click on the map to your left. This will allow you to examine the locations closely, as well as read further information on just a few members of the Examination Unit at this time.
Staff photos of the Examination Unit were posed as the "Historical Research Annex" employees, in order to avoid compromising the work and its location. The photo on the left demonstrates the growing capacity of employees at the unit working in signal intelligence during WWII.
