Dr. Sheeba Armoogum is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) at the University of Mauritius (UoM). She completed her Bachelor of Science in Physics, Mathematics and Electronics from Bangalore University in 1997, followed by a Master of Computer Applications from Madurai Kamraj University in 2000. She received her PhD in Cybersecurity from the University of Technology, Mauritius. She currently serves as the Contact Person for Horizon Europe’s thematic area “Civil Security for Society” (Cluster 3), representing Mauritius and promoting collaborative opportunities between local and European stakeholders in research and innovation. She also serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Rogers Capital Technology.
Dr. Sheeba is the founder and leader of the CyberSecurity & Forensics Research Group (CSFRG) at the University of Mauritius. She was the past Head of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies at the UoM.
Dr. Armoogum holds two granted patents with the South African Patent Office and is recognised under WIPO classifications. Her first patent, developed as the sole innovator, introduces a Genetic Algorithmic Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS) (WIPO H04L). She is also the co-inventor of an AI-driven Ethical Governance System that integrates Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) with Digital Forensics Incident Response (DFIR) (WIPO G06F).
She specialises in cybersecurity innovation, technical solutions, and strategic planning, driving initiatives that address critical challenges in today’s digital landscape. Her expertise spans Cybersecurity and Quantum Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics and Cyberpsychology, AI-powered Cryptography and Machine Learning, Brain-Computer Interfaces, and Wireless Communication and Networking. She is certified in both Research Ethics and Research Ethics Evaluation. She has published several research papers in top-tier International Journals, Conference Proceedings and Book Chapters.
Dr. Sheeba is a Research Fellow at the INTI International University, Malaysia; an International Doctoral Examiner for the University of KwaZulu-Natal - South Africa; Interim Chairperson for the Southern African Federation & Engineering Organisation (SAFEO) Industry Committee on ICT; and Executive Member of the International Cyber Security & Investigation Committee (ICSIC). She was a member of international committees, including the Africa Region to International Cyber Security (AFRICC) Steering Committee and the International Cybersecurity Challenge (ICC) Steering Committee. She represented Southern Africa as Deputy Secretary for both committees.
To disseminate knowledge in Cybersecurity and related fields at the National and International levels, to promote awareness and understanding of cybercrimes and their impact, she has served as Keynote Speaker / Main Speaker / Invited Speaker / Panellist Speaker for international conferences, forums, webinars and seminars in countries like USA, Poland, Iceland, India, South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka and China. She served as a member of the Editorial Board of reputed International Journals and as a reviewer for International Journals and Conferences, as a subject specialist in the field of Cybersecurity for accreditation of the programmes at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Mauritius, and as a Technical Expert at the Mauritius Accreditation Services (MAURITAS).
Recognised among the “45 Most Influential Women in Digital Transformation in Africa”, her accolades include the Global Women Inventor & Innovator Network Special Recognition Award (2023) and the STEM Academia & Research Award (2024).
Dr. Avinash Mungur is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies at the University of Mauritius where he joined in 2015. He completed his BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Mauritius in 2005, followed by an MSc in Multimedia Networking from Lancaster University (UK) in 2007. In 2012, he received his PhD in Computer Science from Lancaster University (UK).
Dr. Avinash Mungur's research interests lie in the areas of Computer Networks and Security, IPv6, Internet of Things, Future Internet Architecture, and Cloud Computing. He has several publications in peered reviewed conferences, journal publications and research abstracts.
He is an active researcher and is supervising PhD candidates. Dr. Avinash Mungur has been involved in the organisation of international conferences and served as TPC member in numerous international conferences. He is also a certified IPv6 Network Engineer, certified IBM Mobile Application Developer and certified IBM Blockchain Developer.
