Distance Learning Resources for Percussion

The following playlist are videos I have recorded covering a range of topics for beginning to middle/high school percussionists. As I record more videos, they will automatically add to the playlist, so check back occasionally to see what's new. Don't be afraid to watch & practice the same video multiple times, or skip through to parts that are helpful; that's just a good way to practice!

Beginning Percussion Playlist

The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" out of Ft. Myer, VA, has an extensive playlist of beginning band videos. They are not separated out by individual instruments, so you'll have to look for the ones you need, but they are great videos by amazing professional musicians.

Beyond Beginning Band

The Vic Firth Education Website is a great resource for anything you need to know or want to practice for percussion. There are videos and play along tracks for all 40 drum rudiments, lessons for drumset and individual percussion instruments, and lots of information about the wide variety of percussion instruments and how to play them.

Jazz at Lincoln Center has a great series of video masterclasses on how to improve specific techniques and styles of your playing. Every person featured is a professional musician with years of experience playing and teaching. The playlists features a variety of percussion and rhythm section playing, so pick and choose the videos that you want to watch. Their Jazz Academy page has a wide variety of videos you can check out as well.

The US Army Field Band also has a series of videos ranging from masterclasses and techniques, to full performances and guest artists. Peruse either the selected playlists below or check out their full channel or website.

'The President's Own' US Marine Band was founded in 1798 and has performed for every US President since John Adams, and is considered one of the finest professional musical ensembles in the country. Members have recorded instructional videos for individual instruments in the first playlist below, and the other linked playlists feature performances within your instrument & family.
