6th Grade Band

Welcome back to band! Mr. Lienemann & Mr. Mangan are excited to begin working with our 6th grade and continue to build upon their musical education. Due to COVID-19, the learning process for band will be a little different this year to help keep students and their families safe. Please see below for our list of COVID-19 procedures, which will continue to update as needed.

Below you will also find a google calendar with our upcoming assignmnts and events, classroom information and expectations, and look for new content to be added as we progress through the year.

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS FOR BAND

The following precautions will be used to help keep our students safe during band class:

  • Students will be seated a minimum distance of 6 feet apart

  • Students will maintain social distancing at the beginning and end of class when taking and replacing instruments from lockers

  • Students will wear masks unless playing an wind instrument

    • Musician's masks with the ability to insert a mouthpiece through a pleat are being researched and may be implemented as we progress for further safety

  • Students will have individual mouthpieces and reeds which will be disinfected on a daily basis, percussion will have individual snare drum sticks, and shared mallets (i.e. Bass Drum) will be deposited in a 'dirty' bucket to be disinfected before further use.


  • The following items will be issued to students daily to prevent aerosol spread:

    • Brass: Bell covers, towel for water keys, small 'sock' for buzzing

    • Woodwinds except flute: instrument 'bags' to put around the instrument when playing, small 'sock' for crowing on mouthpieces or necks.

    • Flutes: Face shield or flute mask

    • Percussion: Students will have individual pairs of drumsticks, large sticks and instruments will be wiped down with disinfectant wipes

    • All used articles will be deposited in a hamper at the front of the room for daily cleaning


  • Shared instruments will be disinfected by the following methods:

    • Brass: Exterior wiped down with disinfectant cloths, leadpipe & tuning slide rinsed or snaked

    • Woodwinds: Exterior wiped down with disinfectant cloths, students swab instrument with a clean swab, teachers will swab the interior with an alcohol solution to disinfect

    • Percussion: Equipment and sticks will be wiped down with disinfectant cloths
