  • If anything breaks or appears to stop working, please alert a staff member immediately.
  • Users must provide their own SD cards if using our Canon 60D Camera.

If you are using the Photo Studio for Video Production, the following conditions apply:

  • Video productions and high volume sound studio sessions must take place after 6:00pm on weekdays (Mon-Fri) and after 4:00pm on weekends (Sat-Sun). Sessions must end before 6:00am the following day.
  • Video shoots require booking off all second floor facilities (namely, Photo Studio, Video Editing Suite), and require signage placement at the bottom of both stairwells which states “VIDEO SHOOT IN PROGRESS: PLEASE BE QUIET”.
  • You are permitted to work into the night, so long as you are finished and the space is fully restored by 8am the following day.

Failure to comply with these policies may result in temporary or permanent suspension of photo studio privileges.

EQUIPMENT PROCEDURES

Lighting configurations:

  • LED lights can be configured in one of two ways:
    • Point lights away from the subject, facing the white and black umbrella; or
    • Remove the black exterior of the umbrella leaving the white interior, and turn lights towards the subject.
  • In either case, please exercise caution when moving the light stands and handling the umbrellas.

Removing Backdrop:

  • Whenever possible, we strongly suggest getting someone in the space to help you with this process.
  • Begin by removing the clamp from horizontal pole and, if present, the masking tape securing the backdrop to the floor.
  • Next, lower the top portion of the stand, gradually and steadily.
  • Then lower the next middle stand in a similar fashion.
  • Remove the pins and slide the backdrop off; make sure you turn the stands outward so you have enough space to fully remove the backdrop.
  • Make sure the backdrop is rolled up tightly, and place in the appropriate cardboard case.

Installing Backdrop:

  • Whenever possible, we strongly suggest getting someone in the space to help you with this process.
  • Carefully remove backdrop from cardboard case.
  • Slide the backdrop onto the horizontal top pole, usually oriented in an overhang fashion.
  • Adjust the height of the middle portion of the stand until it is close to maximum height.
  • Then adjust the top portion of the stand until it is roughly 4-6 inches from the ceiling; you may need a chair to do this, so please exercise utmost caution.
  • Begin unrolling the backdrop until you reach desired length.
  • If you require the floor to be in the shot, secure the backdrop to the ground using the provided masking tape.
