Introduction
The establishment of an internal quality assurance system in a higher education institution is said to be the cornerstone in creating a sustainable framework for maintaining quality. The ultimate aim of quality assurance is to cultivate a quality culture in the system of higher education.
Functionality
Internal Quality Assurance Cell, of the Faculty of Arts, liaise with the Director, Center for Quality Assurance (CQA) of the University of Jaffna to coordinate university level Quality Assurance (QA) activities. It works with other related committees and units within the Faculty to promote and enhance the quality of higher education.
The Cell was established in 2011 under the directive of the QA Unit of the University of Jaffna. The Cell aims to formalize and streamline the QA process at both Faculty and University level. It represents all stakeholders for quality within the Faculty, including academic staff, students, administrative staff and non-academic staff.
This cell functions to enhance the quality of education in all the study programs of the Faculty of Arts. The first Director of former IQAU and present CQA was Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah, who developed the documents of Internal Quality Assurance Policy and Framework and Academic Accountability and get them approved by the Council. The IQAC executes the directions given by the Center for Quality assurance (CQA) of the University of Jaffna and plays a leading role by networking all the Departments and Units under the Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna.
IQAC has monthly meetings every first Friday of a month at 2.00 pm at the IQA cell (room no 211) of the new Arts Block,1st floor Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna. This meeting facilitates all the members to get together and to discuss issues raised on quality enhancement and maintenance and draw decisions to ensure the quality education in all the Depts/units of this Faculty. The monthly progress and the minutes of the IQAC monthly meetings will be reported to the Faculty Board and the CQA. Further Quarterly Progress reports and the Annual report will be submitted to the Center for Quality Assurance, University of Jaffna.
