On 6th February 2025, the Study Group of Sri Lankan Agriculture (SGSLA) in collaboration with JISNAS organized a seminar under the theme “Research in Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka”. The seminar featured two key presentations related to environmental sustainability and agricultural practices, showcasing significant academic research from Sri Lanka. The seminar was held virtually on Zoom and was aimed at fostering knowledge exchange among academics, researchers, and professionals in the field of agricultural sciences.

The seminar featured two distinct topics presented by eminent scholars:
Topic 1: Biochar: Novel Engineering Aspects and Potential Environmental Applications
Speaker: Prof. Kannan Nadarajah, Professor, Department of Agricultural Engineering, University of Jaffna.
His presentation focused on the innovative engineering aspects of biochar and its various applications in environmental sustainability.
Topic 2: Effectiveness of Community Participation in Mangrove Restoration in Northern Sri Lanka
Speaker: Dr. Sarujan Sathiyamoorthy, Senior Lecturer, Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Jaffna.
His presentation delved into the critical role of community participation in the restoration of mangrove ecosystems in northern Sri Lanka. His research examined the social and economic factors influencing community engagement in mangrove conservation projects.
