The Department of Agricultural Chemistry exhibited its models and research posters in both soil and food disciplines. Under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) S. Sivakanthan, Head of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, the exhibits were arranged at the venue.

The following exhibits were demonstrated by final-year students and staff. The exhibits effectively communicated the importance of sustainable soil and nutrient management practices and highlighted environmentally responsible approaches to agriculture.

Food specialization
Research and awareness posters were exhibited at the venue, attracting considerable attention from farmers, food producers, students, and agricultural officers. Participating students actively explained the posters, answered questions, and engaged in discussions. This interaction helped raise public awareness while also enhancing the students’ communication skills and confidence in presenting food science concepts. The posters effectively conveyed key messages related to illegal food colorants, food quality certification, and food safety practices.

A one- day workshop on "Organic Fertilizer Production: Composting and Vermicomposting" was successfully conducted on 23rd August 2025 from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm at the Auditorium, Home Garden and Farm Unit, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, jointly organized by the Jaffna Science Association. Prof. N. Gnanavelrajah, Senoir Professor in the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, delivered a comprehensive lecture on "Techniques for Quality Compost Production and Sri Lanka Standards". Dr. (Mrs). A.Shayanthan, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Delivered a talk on "Modern Composting Technologies and the Use of Biofertilizers".
During the practical session, farmers received hands- on training and were actievely involved in making vermicompost and compost piles themselves under guidance, enabling them to immediately apply the techniques learned. The session was conducted by Ms. K. Kajeevan, Lecturer (Probationary), Department of the Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture.
