Physiology
This image depicts the central nervous system of a Gray wolf which is very similar to an Ethiopian wolf.
Central Nervous System
Central Nervous System
The central nervous system is a complex network of nerves that control the movement and activities of the body, starting at the brain and branching out of the spinal cord. In this system you'll find the brain, spinal cord, the cerebellum, the pituitary gland, and the raquideous bulb. This system cycles information to and from the brain and help with reflexes.
Circulatory System
Circulatory System
The Ethiopian wolf just like humans have a closed circulatory system which means that their heart consists of 4 chambers. Just like humans the right side of the heart pumps blood to the lungs and back to the heart, while the left side pumps the blood to the rest of the body. There are blood vessels and arteries; the vessels take blood to the heart while arteries take blood away from the heart. This allows for circulation of the blood that helps bring oxygen and nutrients, carries hormones and antibodies throughout the body, and gets rid of waste material (CO2)
Depicted here is the circulatory system of a dog, showing the flow of veins and arteries from the heart towards the rest of the body.
The various muscle tissues can be seen in this image of a wolf.
Muscular System
Muscular System
The muscular system consists of the cardiac muscle system, smooth muscle, and skeletal muscle. Cardiac muscle fibers are found in the heart, it is similar to the skeletal muscle, by being striated muscles; but unlike the skeletal muscle, the cardiac muscle is not under voluntary control. Smooth muscle are located in internal organs for example the intestines, stomach, and bladder. They are also involuntary muscles that are controlled by the autonomic nervous system . Finally skeletal muscle are straited muscles and voluntary muscles. These muscle are attached to some extent onto the skeleton and allows for movement such as tail wagging, walking, eating and so on.
