I have limited lived experience. Both me and my daughter attended Portland Public Schools (PPS). I have some dated experience related to Portland Community College (PCC)'s English learning programs from when I worked in the English as a Non-Native Language (ENNL) lab in the 90s. I aware of local school board conflicts related to race and LGBTQIA (= Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) issues. I don't have any connections on this issue.
I'm interested because I've had two daughters in the school system for the last 10 years and I've noted very few changes to support the participation of BIPOC parents in the attendance and participation in meetings, events and opportunities that could benefit our children. I want to learn more about how to help to increase parents' participation.
