The act of using another person’s words or ideas without giving credit to that person
~ Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
Plagiarism is a BIG DEAL!
Intentional vs Unintentional.
Intentional:
you lift words and phrases wholesale from another's work and don't acknowledge them.
you purchase a paper online and pass it off as your own.
you borrow someone else's work/paper and claim it as your own.
Unintentional:
forgetting to acknowledge the other's work or ideas.
poorly paraphrased ideas or words.
In General:
Specific word(s) must be placed in quotation marks and cited.
Do not pass off an author's ideas as your own.
General common knowledge -- or common knowledge within your subject area -- doesn't need a source citation.
