"When you take notes on a source thoughtfully, you engage not just its words and ideas but also its implications, consequences, shortcomings, and new possibilities."
~Turabian, A Manual for Writers of Research papers, theses, and Dissertations, p. 39
Remember ... This is a Conversation!
Engage with a wide range of sources to demonstrate that you've adequately researched the topic; not only sources that agree with your hypothesis, you should read and respond to sources that challenge or disagree with you as well.
Ask questions! Challenge the author and challenge your own assumptions.
Accurately record and note the sources of ideas, direct quotes, and summarizations so you can properly cite them in your paper.
