Eagle Nation Families,
As we come back from our fall break and holiday weekend I am excited for all the things happening between now and winter break. Athletics are in full swing here, wrapping up girls basketball, in season for boys basketball and starting with volleyball and wrestling, what a busy time! As a former music teacher I love all the concerts coming up to showcase our student talent and of course seeing excitement in staff members as students have grown so much in their learning during the semester.
In the next few weeks we will have lots of time for celebration and we will be counting down with spirit days until break. Please check in with infinite campus and teachers as we wrap up grades for the first half of the year and as always if you have questions please reach out to our admin team!

11/28 - Counselors visit and students learn which school they will be attending.
11/30 - Freshmen Orientation @ both Normal Community and Normal West from 630-8 p.m.
Week of 12/5 - High School Counselors visit, course selections are done (due by 3:45 on 12/9)
Week of 12/12 - Course requests go in Infinite Campus and Evans Counselors meet with students individually to confirm their choices.

Dental Clinic - Orland Park Dental Services will be coming to Evans on Thursday, February 9, 2023 for a dental clinic. If you would like your student to be seen by the dentist, please click on the link below and complete the form by Friday, January 20, 2023. All students are eligible to see the dentist. A dental exam is a state requirement for all 6 th graders due in April, 2023. It is also a state requirement for 9th graders. A dental exam at this time for 8th graders would meet that requirement for next school year.

For tryouts you must have an up to date physical and register on 8 to 18. Please wear a shirt with your name on the back and athletic shoes.

Coding Night @ West
On Thursday December 8 from 6:00-8:00pm, Normal West Girls Who Code Club, CyberPatriot, AP Computer Science students and Computer Science Honor Society members will be hosting our 7th Annual K-8 Coding Night! This is a FREE event and will be held in person!
Finding Joy in the Journey
As a way to keep our focus on the positive things happening in Eagle Nation over the last month our staff has been sharing how others bring them joy by using THIS FORM . I would like to encourage families who have seen Evans Staff bringing JOY to their student or family to also share that. I will then share weekly with our staff, but feel free to share with them directly as well!
Administration Updates
With mixed feelings we are announcing changes to our administrative team at Evans. Our principal, Kimberly Martin-Boyd and Associate Principal/Athletic Director Brett Papoccia will remain in their positions, but we will be transitiioning personnel in the Assistant Principal role. Currently, Nathan Lawler is serving as assistant four days a week at Evans and one day a week at Parkside Jr. High. After Winter Break Mr. Lawler will be transitioning to the role of Assistant Principal at Pepper Ridge Elementary. While we are excited for new opportunities for him, we are sad to see him go. Luckily for us, our wonderful counselor Sarah Crowder has been hired to move into the Assistant Principal role. She will being that position in January. Please be patient as we work to fill her role as A-K counselor, we hope to have an update on that in our next newsletter. Congratulations to both Mr. Lawler and Mrs. Crowder on their new positions!
