Welcome to fall! We are excited to be wrapping up the first quarter of the school year next week, moving into fall/winter sports and starting to see our clubs and concerts starting back up again. PTO
Evans PTO continues to be a strong support system for our students, staff and Eagle Nation community. All parents are welcome to be members of PTO and to attend any meetings. The biggest upcoming event is "un-raiser" all families are asked to respond regardless of their ability to donate, the PTO wants to connect with all Evans Families. The student team with the most returned fliers by Oct. 20th will earn an ice cream party from the PTO. Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, November 7th. There will be both virtual and in-person options. All teachers at Evans will have slots available, and a link to sign up will come out later next week via an Infinite Campus message. Please note that conferences are not required for all families, and any time you have a concern about your child please reach out to their teachers or the administration/guidance team, we are happy to help.
Respectful, Responsible & Safe
Our core values at Evans are shown through our choices, to be respectful, responsible and safe within Eagle Nation. Our top discipline incidents for September were - Disruptive Behaviors, Inappropriate Physical Contact/Physical Aggression and Insubordination/Non-Compliance. We are also seeing an increase in inappropriate behaviors on the bus (standing while bus is moving, eating on the bus, yelling, inappropriate language and insubordination). As always we want to partner with families to help our students make appropriate choices. As a way to correct behaviors and educate students on expectations the guidance counselors, PE teachers and administrative team are partnering to work with students on the issue of inappropriate physical contact, please see this Parent Letter to learn more about what we will be talking about with Evans students.

Finding Joy in the Journey
As a way to keep our focus on the positive things happening in Eagle Nation over the last month our staff has been sharing how others bring them joy by using THIS FORM . I would like to encourage families who have seen Evans Staff bringing JOY to their student or family to also share that. I will then share weekly with our staff, but feel free to share with them directly as well!
Promise Council
The Evans Jr. High Promise Council needs you!
Who we are: A group of caring adults that assist the teachers and staff at Evans with student success.
What we do: Use community resources to meet the specific needs of students (physical needs, adult mentors, increasing parental engagement, etc.)
How you can help: Become part of our "shout out" email list so when a need arises, you can step in. Consider joining the Evans Jr. High Promise Council - we only meet once a month!

Athletic Updates
Boys Basketball Tryouts are coming up! 6th/7th Grade Tryouts will be Oct. 17th from 6:30-8:15 a.m., Oct. 18th from 4-6 p.m. and Oct. 19th from 6-8 p.m. 8th Grade Tryouts will be on Oct. 18th from 6:30-8:15 a.m. and Oct. 19th from 4-6 p.m. Reach out to Coach Sefton or Coach Keeler for more information.
Girls Basketball 8th grade night will be on Oct. 27th vs. Olympia MS. Come join us for refreshments after the game!

Evans Jr. High technology teacher, Bob Scornavacco was named the Technology Education Association of Illinois "New" Middle School Teacher of the Year. Scorna transferred to Evans this year from Normal West and is also our 8th Grade Baseball Coach.
