School Bus for JA Students

  • JA parents are invited to complete the form on the "Getting Ready JA" page. This will let us know that your child is ready to ride the bus.

  • We anticipate that Yellow bus service will begin on Monday, September 19, 2022 for eligible J1 - J4 students. (Date subject to change.)

  • JA students whose siblings ride the bus may also begin to use bus service to and from school beginning on Monday, September 19.

  • All other JA students may begin to ride the bus on Monday, September 26 (Date subject to change.)

  • If your child will ride the bus, please ensure that by 1:00 pm you have recorded that dismissal instruction in School Dismissal Manager (SDM).

  • Your child will not be permitted to ride the bus on any given day unless your instructions to do so appear in the SDM (School Dismissal Manager) transportation report at dismissal on that school day (see dismissal protocols).

Please be informed that New York City Department of Education (DOE) grants free transportation to eligible, registered NYC resident students according to their grade and/or distance from home/stop to school. Kindly refer to the eligibility information on the School NYC website.

The transportation options that the DOE provides are the yellow bus service for students from kindergarten to 6th grade or Metro cards for those whose parents choose not to ride the yellow bus, and for all 7th to 12th grade NYC resident students.

Please note that as children advance from grade J2 to J3, they become ineligible for yellow bus service if they reside in distance code “B” outlined in OPT’s eligibility link (above).

These transportation options are a FREE SERVICE…fully managed by New York City Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT).

Please be aware that the Office of Pupil Transportation reviews all the stops and routes every year. Accordingly, there might be some changes in the stops shown in the current schedule. I will notify you of any changes as soon as it occurs and I am always more than happy to work with parents and the OPT on a case by case basis for the best interest of our students.

For non-NYC resident students living outside the five 5 boroughs of New York, Metro North Railroad and Long Island Railroad offer students discounted monthly tickets. I am happy to provide more information regarding these programs and to assist families living in these areas.

Also, there are private transportation services (vans, mini-buses, cars…) used by some UNIS families. The arrangements for these services are the responsibility of parents organizing the transport. The UNIS transportation office does not coordinate these services:

Upper East Side: A morning service from Upper East Side is organized by a group of parents. The parent coordinator for this service is: Ms. Stephania Giordano email stefania3110@hotmail.com

Brooklyn Bus: A private yellow bus service from Brooklyn is being organized by a group of parents. The parent coordinators for this service are: Ms. Charlene Ouahab charlene.ouahab@gmail.com and Ms. Damita Yu damitayu@hotmail.com

Please contact Transportation for any additional information you may need. We can be reached at 212-584-3160 or transportation@unis.org.

Note that if your child used yellow bus service in 2021-22, and your home address remains the same, you do not need to complete the form below. This form is only for students who did not use the bus in 2021-22, or new students, or families who moved over the summer.

THIS IS NOT A REGISTRATION FORM FOR THE BUS

Complete this transportation form only if your child is a new bus rider in 2022-23

JA STUDENTS - YELLOW BUS

We want to do everything possible to ensure that Junior A children who ride the bus have positive experiences. It is important to prepare your child, in advance, by checking to ensure that he/she knows the following:

  • the route number of the bus

  • the location where he/she will be getting on the bus in the morning

  • the location where he/she will be getting off the bus in the afternoon

  • the person who will be picking him/her up at that stop

Your child should also know that, upon arrival, the bus will discharge passengers at the rear of the school. Your child should proceed directly to the playground after being discharged from the bus.

Please complete the form below no later than September 15 and return it to your child's homeroom teacher. This will let us know that your JA child is ready to ride the bus.

So that your homeroom teacher has your child's dismissal information up to date, please be sure to update School Dismissal Manager (SDM) in advance of each day to inform whether or not your child will ride the bus.

IF YOUR CHILD IS NOT IN JA, DO NOT FILL OUT THE FORM BELOW

The JA Bus Form 2022-23 below is for your JA teacher's information only.
