GETTING READY: J3
CLASS SUPPLIES
Your child will enter Junior 3 in the fall. Here are some tips to help you prepare. Your child will need the following supplies in Junior 3:
Two boxes of tissues
A school bag large enough to hold a homework folder and reading books (approx. 10” x 12 1/2”)
A refillable/reusable water bottle
Clorox Wipes
A bottle of hand sanitizer
Headphones to use with an iPad/Chromebook. Do not send earbuds. The headphones should be in a large ziplock bag. We recommend purchasing one of the pairs recommended below.
A supply of #2 pencils and a pencil sharpener
2 glue sticks
2 erasers
1 ruler
1 pair of scissors
1 set of colored pencils or thin line markers
Please note that oversize backpacks with wheels don't fit into the cubbies.
All supplies need to be labeled with your child’s name.
HOME STUDY SUPPLIES
The following supplies need to be kept at home for home study:
Pencils
Ruler (lined in centimeters and inches)
Package of lined paper
Glue sticks
Scissors
Crayons and colored pencils
Dictionary/ Thesaurus or access to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary or the free app (on iPad)
2 dice and 1 deck of playing cards
Please check your child’s Home Study folder each day as this may include important notes and messages from UNIS. Thank you for your support.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION - UNIFORMS AND SWIMMING INFORMATION
Your child will need the following clothes for Physical Education:
A pair of blue shorts and a UNIS t-shirt
A pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt for colder weather
A pair of sneakers
White socks
Students are expected to come to school wearing their PE uniform on the days they have PE as they WILL NOT be changing in the locker rooms.
PE uniforms and other UNIS-branded clothing and supplies are available on the Land’s End website www.landsend.com in “Uniforms” (UNIS Preferred School Number 900077660). Land’s End customer service can be phoned at 1-800-469-2222. You can also select “UNIS Gear” in the links dropdown on www.unis.org. This section requires you to log in with your UNIS username and password.
Swimming:
All students will be swimming for 1-2 months as part of the J3 PE program. During this time students will require the following items:
Girls: one-piece bathing suit, preferably in a plain dark color
Boys: speedos/jammers/ swim shorts, no longer than the knee, preferably in a plain dark color
Swim cap (mandatory for all)
Goggles are optional but recommended
Towel
Flip-flops or water shoes are optional but recommended
A rash guard is permitted but not required
Labeled swim bag, preferably a backpack big enough to hold everything
Specific details about the swim program and the dates that your child’s class will be swimming will be shared closer to the start of the school year.
You will need to complete the release form before the school year begins. If you have more than one child attending UNIS (in grades 2, 3 or 4) complete one form per child.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Please label all jackets, coats, school supplies, water bottles, lunch boxes, athletic gear, etc. with your child’s first and last name and homeroom before they are brought to school.
Students are expected to be accountable for their own possessions and we encourage clear labeling on all of your child's clothing and school supplies (both first and last names and homeroom) including coats, sweatshirts, athletic gear, backpacks, pencil cases, lunch boxes and water bottles. Your reinforcement of this at home with your child is encouraged.
Families should note that:
Unclaimed clothing will be periodically collected and donated by the school
All other items will be discarded
