GETTING READY: J1

Your child will enter Junior 1 in the fall. Here are some tips to help you prepare:

Your child will need the following supplies in Junior 1:

• Two boxes of tissues

• Two cloth napkins for lunchtime (one to use for a placemat and the other as a napkin)

• Reusable cutlery (home and school lunch, to minimize waste and use of plastic cutlery)

• A smock or shirt for art (an adult t-shirt or shirt with the sleeves cut off is fine)

• A school bag large enough to hold a homework folder and reading books (approx. 10” x 12 1/2”)

• A refillable/reusable water bottle

• Clorox Wipes

• A bottle of hand sanitizer

• Headphones to use with an iPad/Chromebook. Do not send earbuds. The headphones should be in a large ziplock bag. We recommend purchasing one of the pairs recommended below.

• Hard plastic pencil case

• A small box of crayons

• A box of multicultural crayons

• A set of thin, fine magic markers

• A set of colored pencils

• A supply of #2 pencils

• A supply of 3 x 3 Post-It Notes

• 2 glue sticks

• 2 erasers

• Curved edge child safe scissors

All supplies need to be labeled with your child’s name.

For Home Study your children will need the following at home:

• A small box of crayons

• A set of thin, fine magic markers

• A set of colored pencils

• A supply of #2 pencils

• An inch/cm ruler

• Dice

• Playing Cards

• Glue

• Scissors

• Writing journal 

NOTE: UNIS provides all in-school supplies for your child including a Home Study folder. Please check your child’s Home Study folder each day as this may include important notes and messages from UNIS. Thanks!

Your child will need the following clothes for Physical Education:

• A pair of blue shorts and a UNIS t-shirt

• A pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt for colder weather

• A pair of sneakers

• White socks

Students will be expected to come to school wearing their PE uniform on the days they have PE as they WILL NOT be changing in the locker rooms.

Please label all jackets, coats, school supplies, water bottles, lunch boxes, athletic gear, etc. with your child’s first and last name and homeroom before they are brought to school.

Students are expected to be accountable for their own possessions and we encourage clear labeling on all of your child's clothing and school supplies (both first and last names and homeroom) including coats, sweatshirts, athletic gear, backpacks, pencil cases, lunch boxes and water bottles. Your reinforcement of this at home with your child is encouraged.

Families should note that:

• Unclaimed clothing will be periodically collected and donated by the school

• All other items will be discarded
