How to open a bank account (mandatory for E+ ICM students)

Opening a bank account might not be easy for exchange students! Banks usually do not want to open short-time accounts, then if you face any problem, do not get discouraged and go visiting other banks in Rome (any bank will fit for us), just be sure to have an IBAN code and we will be able to pay the scholarship.

Online banking services (such as N26, Hype, INGdirect, Banca Etica...) could be ok as well.

Other online banking services like Paysera, Wise, Revolut, could be fine as well as long as they have a European IBAN code.

Also Monese creates a regular bank account by only depositing 20€. You can ask for a card to reach your house and it would take around 2 weeks for you to get it. It is only required to have an Italian phone number and an official document (such as passport). You can use the App  without card and make any transactions digitally.

Even prepaid cards (like GENIUS Card or PostePay Evolution) are totally fine as long as they have an IBAN code.

PLEASE NOTE: in order to be valid, the IBAN code must be Italian (or European at least) and it must be at your name. Non-EU IBAN codes, or IBAN codes which belong to others' accounts cannot be accepted.
