Giorgia was born on May 21, 1998, in Italy. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry in 2020 at the University of Pavia, graduating with full marks. Her thesis was a compilative work focused on the study of PyroTASQ, a probe targeting G-quadruplex nucleic acid structures. Driven by her interest in innovative therapeutic strategies, she pursued a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry, focusing on the synthesis of naphthalene diimide derivatives as potential G-quadruplex ligands for anticancer applications, that obtained in full marks cum laude in fall 2022.
Since October 2022, she is a Ph.D. candidate, working on innovative chemical strategies for nucleic acid secondary structure targeting. Her research is centered on the design and synthesis of G-quadruplex ligands with potential therapeutic applications, exploring both covalent and non-covalent interactions. A key aspect of her work involves the development of photoactivatable alkylating agents, designed to selectively modify DNA structures upon light activation.
Beyond research, Giorgia is involved in student mentoring, co-supervision of thesis projects, and the organization of academic events. She has been a tutor in Organic Chemistry for several years and is part of the organizing committee of the international doctoral school INTERACTION WINS.
She has many passions—too many, in fact—but most of them last about a week before she moves on to something new.
