Alessio was born in Voghera, a small town near the hills of Oltrepò Pavese in Italy in 1990. In 2016 he obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry at Università degli Studi di Milano with the help of Prof. Anna Bernardi and her group. His work was based on the synthesis of key intermediates for a library of mannose-based glycomimetic compounds targeting DC-SIGN.
Two years after, he joined the group of the ERC Grant winner Prof. Dr. Sara Sattin of Università Degli Studi di Milano, and with her help he gained his M.Sc. in Chemical Sciences with full marks, defending a thesis entitled "Synthesis of HSP90 Allosteric Modulators and Fluorescent Probes".
After the graduation he worked as researcher in the laboratories of Stahl Italy S.R.L., leading company in the leather industry, then he was hired from Teofarma S.R.L. working mainly as a QC Analyst.
In fall 2019 he won a Ph.D. scholarship from Politecnico di Milano where he joined the group of Prof. Dr. Alessandro Volonterio; his research was focused on the synthesis of peptidomimetics with IDE-regulating activity and the investigation of their ability to work as β-turn peptidomimetics.
In fall 2020 he obtained the professional license as chemist, then, In September 2022 he joined the group of ERC Grant winner Prof. Dr. Gilles Gasser at Chimie ParisTech, Paris, France for a 5 month visiting PhD period, working on the the chemical functionalization of ruthenium- or osmium-based phototherapeutic anticancer complexes for the improvement of their internalization. He successfully obtained the Ph.D. title and the Doctor Europaeus title in June 2023.
Since spring 2023 he is a Postdoctoral researcher in the G4Lab where he works, within the ImmunoHUB European framework, on multiple projects in the medicinal chemistry sector. He mentored different bachelor students, and was involved in a lot of didactic activity, working as Assistant Lecturer for the courses of "Organic Chemistry of the Biomolecules" and "Organic Chemistry Laboratory" held by Prof. Dr. Filippo Doria and "Advanced Organic Chemistry" held by Prof. Dr. Mauro Freccero. He is also Lecturer for the "Instrumental Analytical Chemistry" course at the ITS Academy - Nuove Tecnologie della Vita.
Alessio is also a drummer and he loves destroying stages with his group “Le Lune di Idra”. He is a good cook and his best recipe is the Wellington Filet. He is a huge AC Milan fan.
