In order to best prepare our 7th grade students for IM1 during their 8th grade year, Union Middle School will be offering all 7th grade students an opportunity to join our Advanced Math 8 Prep Club. This club will cover the 8th grade content that a student would normally miss by advancing from 7th grade math to IM1 (the advanced/9th grade math course).
Please note that this club is only open to current UMS 7th grade students.
AMPC Structure:
Almost all AMPC work is done independently, and on a student's own time. Lesson videos through Khan academy, and practice sets from Delta Math are assigned at intervals for students to complete independently. If a student stays on pace with assignments, it will take roughly 2-3 hours a week to complete (depending on how fast students work).
Students should seek support during math clinic or snack break from Mrs Reynolds in room 3. Math clinic is held every Wednesday and Friday morning before school starts, 8:05-8:30AM. Snack break is the recess between 2nd and 3rd periods.
About once every two weeks, there will be a targeted workshop during lunch where Mrs Reynolds will give instruction on specific standards and/or offer self assessments so you can see how you are doing and network with other students. While these meetings are optional, they are highly recommended to ensure all students are on the path to a successful placement in IM1 for their 8th grade year.
These supports are optional, and meant to assist students in the process of preparing for the placement test at the end of 7th grade. Each 7th grader can participate it the extent that they feel comfortable. Please be sure that your top priority is success with 7th grade math.
Please email Mrs. Reynolds with any questions you have: reynoldsj@unionsd.org.
