Mr. Preza is a proponent of having strong communication lines with families in order to better provide for their children.
For day-to-day communication, direct message on ParentSquare is the best avenue for reaching him. District, site, and classroom communications are also shared via ParentSquare.
The year will begin with weekly communications, then move to bi-weekly communications.
Immediate updates will be shared as needed.
You can also reach Mr. Preza through email at prezaj@unionsd.org. Please be aware that he does not check his throughout the instructional school day.
Each family has a different philosophy on the topic of "homework." Every philosophy is valued in Room 10! On a daily basis, your child will be encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes and complete math problems related to the daily lesson taught earlier in the school day. Homework will not be corrected or graded.
Reading logs will not be used by Mr.Preza, so it is your discretion as a guardian to what and how long your child reads on a daily basis.
If you would like your child to keep a log, here is an example that can be printed or used digitally.
Your child's student planner also has a reading log at the bottom of each daily planning section.
On rare occasions, if your child falls behind on in-class projects, your child may be encouraged to work on it at home.
If your child is completing homework, please remind them to bring their student planner to school everyday.
For the first couple months of school, homework will be included in the weekly communications.
Students will always be celebrated and acknowledged on their birthdays. However, birthday snacks are not allowed in Room 10 or any USD classroom. This is a district-wide policy.
Instead, birthday celebrants can choose and be in charge of an activity in the classroom (ie: PE, cooldown cartoons, arts and crafts). If students want to share a non-food goodie bag or small items, they will have the last few minutes of class on their birthday to do so.
Students will visit Mission San Juan Bautista. During this field trip, students will learn more about California history through a special presentation and free exploration of the mission.
The theme of our end-of-year field day is "Gold Rush." Students will participate in various entertaining activities. All of 4th-grade will have a special lunch as well.
Students will travel back to El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe in 1797 and explore the oldest house in San José, all while partaking in popular pastime activities of the time.
Monetary donations for each learning experience will be collected closer to each experience date.
Items that needed to be donated throughout the year are hand sanitizer, tissue boxes, and disinfectant wipes are needed all year round. It would be ideal if items could be donated at the start of the year and stockpiled until needed.
Due to responsibilities beyond the classroom, Mr. Preza is expected to have a minimum of 9 substitute days for this school year. He will do his best to spread these days out so as to not impact students. For the majority of these days, he will be on campus and will return to the classroom if needed. These 9 days do not include sick or personal days.
