Weekly Schedule
Union School District first adopted Eureka Math (squared) during the 24-25 school year. In fourth grade, students will develop deeper comprehension in areas of :
Module 1: Place Value Concepts for Addition and Subtraction
Module 2:Place Value Concepts for Multiplication and Division
Module 3: Multi-Digit Multiplication and Division
Module 4: Foundations for Fraction Operations
Module 6: Foundations for Decimal Operations
Module 7: Geometry Concepts
Every day students will engage in reading and writing. ELA lessons are guided by the philosophies of: Writer's Workshop, Guided Reading, Notice and Note, and teaching practices known as EduProtocols.
Writing Focus: Personal Narratives, Expository Writing, and Persuasive Writing
Reading Genres: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Historical Fiction, Articles
Reading Development: Fluency, Accuracy, Reading Comprehension
ELA Development: Grammar, Parts of Speech, Figurative Language, Greek and Latin Roots, and composition fundamentals
The focus of social studies in 4th grade is California history. Students will explore California's history through various lessons and activities, including the reading of different novels. Union School District adopted the current social students program called TCI in the year 2023. Students will learn the following topics about California history:
California Geography and Map Skills
California's First Inhabitants- Native Americans
Early Explorers of California
California's Mission System and Mission Life
California Joining the U.S.A
California Ranchos
The Gold Rush
California Connecting with Other States
The Cultural Make Up of California's Population
Starting in the 24-25 school year, Union School Disticted adopted the TCI Science Curriculum. TCI is alligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). To read more details about NGSS, please read this parent guide. Each quarter, students will focus on one of these four topics:
Plant and Animal Structures
Energy
Earth's Changing Surface
Waves and Information
*Engineering Design will be incorporated into all four topics.
