School Expectations

Lietz's universal school expectations are "P.A.W.S." which we will also follow in room 10.

Classroom Atmosphere

Growth & Autonomy: Students will take on higher levels of independence this year while developing a growth mindset.
Whole-Child Focus: Social-emotional development and everyday life skills are held in the exact same regard as academic growth.
Positive Discipline: Our room uses natural and logical consequences to help students reflect and grow.
Effort Matters: High comprehension and proficient output are always the goal, but a good attitude and strong effort are just as important.
A Shared Space: This classroom belongs to all of us! Mr. Preza actively encourages student voice, choice, and democratic decision-making—though he can still play the "teacher card" if necessary! 😉

Student Learning Accountability

Student learning and accountability are supported through a simple classroom procedure called the Correction Station. At the end of most lessons, students complete a quick one-on-one check-in with Mr. Preza to present their work.

This system promotes:

Student Motivation: Keeps kids focused and on task during independent work time.
Instant Feedback: Provides immediate guidance and corrections rather than delayed grading.
1-on-1 Connection: Ensures every student receives dedicated face-to-face time and individual acknowledgment.
Real-Time Assessment: Gives the teacher a constant pulse on overall comprehension and performance.

Ticket Economy

As part of our classroom management system (and simply because it’s fun) students will have opportunities to earn both whole-class and individual incentives.

These rewards will be more frequent at the start of the year to help build a strong community and support students as they acclimate to fourth-grade routines. As the year progresses, our goal is to gradually fade out this token economy and transition from extrinsic rewards to intrinsic motivation, making positive behavior its own reward.

Ticket incentives include, but not limited to:

Extra recess
Free choice time
Stickers
Misc. Toys

Examples of how students can earn incentives:

Accomplishing challenging goals/ tasks
Random acts of kindness
Exercising the 4 C's (communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity)
Exceeding classroom expectations
Using PAWS behaviors
If Mr.Preza is in a really good mood :)
