TOPICS
The aims of the TAPHOS meetings have been to integrate all aspects of current taphonomic research from both a palaeontological and archaeological standpoint.
Biostratinomy
Taphonomy in the analysis of patterns of evolution and extinction
Taphonomy in biostratigraphy
Theory of taphonomy
Taphonomy in palaeoecology and sedimentology
Fossil-Lagerstätten (exceptional preservations)
Taphosystems
Historical ecology and conservation palaeobiology
The organizers cordially invite the submission of abstracts under the themes outlined in Topics. Authors are invited to present their work as a talk or poster presentation (scientific sessions on 17th and 18th June). The organizers will place particular emphasis on providing prominent space and time within the conference schedule for the poster presentations.
Scientific sessions will be held at the Sala Polivalente of Comacchio.
PLENARY LECTURES held by:
Jorge Esteve (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain)
Julien Kimmig (State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe, Germany)
Our invited plenary speakers will boldly take us into the new frontiers of taphonomic research, from the molting dynamic-taphonomic biases to the original mineralogical preservation.
Tuesday, 17th June, 2025: 08:30-18:00, Oral presentations and poster sessions. Welcome party.
Wednesday, 18th June, 2025: 08:30-18:00, Oral presentations and poster sessions.
POST-MEETING FIELD TRIP:

Excursion to Parco del Delta and Museo Delta Antico (Comacchio).
The Po Delta Park (Parco del Delta) represents one of the UNESCO MaB Biosphere Reserves with terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems in which, through appropriate land management, the valorization of the ecosystem and its biodiversity are combined with sustainable development strategies. The Po Delta Park preserves the largest Italian extension of protected wetlands, with territorial and ecological characteristics that make it unique. The unstable relationship between water and land, their always precarious balance, has determined such a changing landscape in the Delta in which woods, pine forests and flooded forests alternate with internal freshwater or marine wetlands. In its management, the Po Delta Park conserves and protects animal and plant species, morphological, biological, ecological, scientific-cultural characteristics and promotes knowledge of the natural heritage.
Through the display of almost two thousand artefacts and with suggestive reconstructions, the guidance systems and moments of interaction and involvement of the public, the Museo Delta Antico tells the story of the ancient Po delta which, with the numerous navigable channels and land, has been over the centuries an important hub of trade and civilization that connected the Mediterranean world and continental Europe. Of particular importance are the sections dedicated to the Etruscan city of Spina, with objects from the town and rich grave goods, to the Roman world, to the birth of Comacchio in the early Middle Ages as a commercial emporium and episcopal location.
