Lessons range from $45 / half hour - $85/hour based on your instructor. We also offer sliding scale pricing to make lessons accessible for everyone!
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Please let your instructor know at least 48 hours in advance if you are going to miss a lesson. Otherwise, you will still be billed. If there are extenuating circumstances you will not be charged.
In-person classes are held at Underhill Studio located at 1432 12th Ave in Capitol Hill, Seattle. The studio is on the lower level of the building at 12th and Pike with Wall of Sound record shop and Dark Age Tattoo. It is close to the Capitol Hill light rail station and on many bus routes. Your instructor can meet you outside at the door to welcome you in and show you around at your first lesson.
The format is whatever you would like it to be! We can do private, semi-private, and group lessons in person or virtually. For adult students, a weekly hour-long lesson is recommended. For younger kids (up to 11-12 yo) 30 mins is recommended and for older kids, an hour usually works better.
Each instructor has their own approach but generally, the lesson plans are tailored to each student so there is no single curriculum or plan. A conversation about music taste and goals is maintained and used to direct lesson plans. If a student just wants to explore and their goals aren't clearly defined that's fine too! Direction will be provided. For beginners, the same set of basic exercises and music theory studies is used as a starting point and then students typically go in their own direction.
Nope, we teach all ages and all skill levels. Some of our instructors lean more toward kids and some more toward adults. See the Instructors page for more info.
No, you will be billed on a weekly basis. Sign up when you want and withdraw on your own time! Generally, our instructors do weekly lessons but, if you're interested in something less frequent don't hesitate to reach out and we'll see if we can work something out. If you need to miss a class a 48-hour notice is required in order to avoid being billed.
We are flexible and offer lessons M-F 8am - 8pm and Sat - Sun 9 am - 6 pm.
Your instructor will let you know what equipment you need before your first lesson. Generally, we have everything you need at the studio for things to go smoothly on day one.
Neither is better, they're just different. There are pros and cons to both. Daniel has taught many students in each format and success in your lessons is far more dependent upon passion, commitment, parental guidance and support if the student is young, and quality of the teacher.
Generally, your lesson will start within 5 mins of its designated start time. You can come on in and wait in the basement (there are some chairs outside of the studio). Occasionally, a lesson may start outside of that 5 min window as there are sometimes many students scheduled in a row and your instructor needs to ensure everybody gets undivided attention for the entire time they've paid for. If this happens we thank you in advance for your patience.
Yes, your first lesson will be half-off!
