This is a photo of my environment as a pharmacy tech intern on a military base. This photo is me checking the expiration dates on the medication, making sure everything is up to date.
There are many different types of environments when it comes to healthcare. There could be nursing homes, private hospitals, children's hospitals, dental office, etc., and each has a different environment. The environment does not necessarily have to mean the physical look of the facility, but it could also mean the type of staff that work there. Healthcare facilities are supposed to promote healthy and safe environments for all. They are supposed to be there for patients whenever they need assistance or have any questions.
My first artifact is a group presentation for my HSMT 3101 class. The presentation talks about how people of different races, color, and backgrounds get treated differently and discriminated against in the healthcare facilities. Being a healthcare organization, there should not be any type of discrimination at all. In the presentation, we also discuss ways that facilities could improve. One example is to hire staff that is able to speak another language other than English. By doing this, this could eliminate the terrible language barrier between patients and staff.
My second artifact is my working at a pharmacy at Spangdahlem Air Base. An on base pharmacy has pretty much the same environment and look as a civilian pharmacy. In this photo I was checking the expiration date of medications. Any medication that is expiring in three months or sooner must be disposed of properly. Working in this environment made me realize that I would love to work in the medical field, but also more specifically in the military’s medical group.
