Task:
Top Automotive is switching from Google Drive to SharePoint. To make the process smoother, the company wants to create a job aid about uploading, sharing, collaborating/editing with documents in SharePoint because the process is slightly different from Google Drive. These steps were chosen because they are the most commonly used and do not require a training or workshop as there are some similarities to Google Drive; therefore, a job aid will suffice should learners need assistance with the task.
AECT Standard:
AECT Standard 2 (Content Pedagogy): Candidates develop as reflective practitioners able to demonstrate effective implementation of educational technologies and processes based on contemporary content and pedagogy.
Creating - Candidates apply content pedagogy to create appropriate applications of processes and technologies to improve learning and performance outcomes. (p. 1)
The AECT Standard 2 (Content Pedagogy) aligns with creating a SharePoint site by emphasizing the importance of candidates developing as reflective practitioners who can effectively implement educational technologies and processes based on current content and pedagogy.
Specifically, when creating a SharePoint site, candidates apply content pedagogy principles to develop suitable applications of processes and technologies that aim to enhance learning and performance outcomes. This approach ensures that the creation of the SharePoint site is not just a technical exercise, but is informed by an understanding of how content and pedagogy can be effectively integrated to support and improve learning experiences.
In this scenario, the practitioners will be able to utilize a Job Aid as part of a technology transition occurring in their company, which will ultimately improve learning and performance outcomes. The employees will participate in a survey that gauges their reactions, and allows them to reflect on implementation, as well as their abilities to demonstrate their use of SharePoint by using the supplied Job Aid.
Companies use job aids to assist in maintaining document control. For example, in an article by Eunju Choi and Douglas Johnson, “unlike goal setting and task clarification, which may be verbally described once or as part of periodic sessions, job aids provide ongoing support that can be consulted by performers during their performance, typically as signage, documents, schedules, and other forms of readily available descriptions for expected actions (Choi & Johnson, 2021 pg. 87, para. 3).
