Hello. My name is Takiyah Davis. I am a candidate for a Master's in Education: Learning, Designs and Technology. Currently, I work as a Support Escalation Engineer at Microsoft. I have been with the company going on 3 years. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Science: Information Technology, in Spring of 2021 from North Carolina A&T State University.
What prompted my career pivot?
Why Learning,Design, and Technology?
Throughout my educational career, I have always had a passion for not only learning, but teaching. However, I knew that the traditional K-12 teaching was not where my passion lies. I spent several years throughout my undergraduate career in a kindergarten classroom as a volunteer, asssiting the teacher. Although I enjoyed it, I immediately knew that was not the route I wanted to take. Once I emerged into my professional career upon graduation and began in my current position, I began to take mandated company-wide trainings and role-specific trainings. I began to see a need for updates to role-specific training that were required for new hires on our team. The content was not engaging, lacked structure, and did not always only include meaningful content. This sparked my interest into researching Instructional Design and L&D roles within our company. I found a few roles that sparked my interest, reached out to a few people, and gained a mentor that currently works on one of our L&D teams. I have found that this is where my passion lies and am continously working on projects on my team or on other teams that help me gain exposure on developing learning content and instructional design.
