I became interested in instructional design after becoming a training specialist and spending time pouring over class material and brainstorming ways of making it better. I had no idea instructional design was even a career, until my boss told me she liked my ideas and formulated a plan for my professional development in the direction of becoming an ISD. I began shadowing other designers at work and eventually received my Instructional Design Certification from the Association of Talent Development. Very quickly after that, I was promoted to an ISD at work and I haven't looked back.
My favorite thing about being on the design side of Learning & Development is the constant necessity for innovation. To me, innovation is not just about transitioning content to a more modern, virtual environment. It's about taking the initiative to understand various learning theories and come up with creative solutions that foster a good learning environment for all types of learners.
