An overview of libraries and librarianship, historical development of libraries, types of libraries, library profession including Code of Ethics for Filipino librarians, and R.A. 9246 and laws and issuances related to Philippine Librarianship. It provides the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of the profession with emphasis on its practice in the Philippines. The course focuses on the historical perspectives and the philosophy of librarianship.

LIS214 ORGANIZATION OF INFORMATION RESOURCES 1
Organization of Information Sources, also called Cataloguing and Classification are specialized, technical and interpretive areas of study and practice. This course is an introduction to a specialized field of study and covers the tools, techniques and standards of cataloguing and classification. It prepares students not only to engage in professional cataloguing work, but foster a sense of purpose and equips them with the skills to evaluate cataloguing and classification practices, tools and systems. This course prepares students for the creation and consumption of bibliographic information in the library contect and beyond.

LIS224K ORGANIZATION OF INFORMATION RESOURCES II
Focuses on the application of the principles in assigning subject headings and classification using Library of Congress Subject Headings and Library of Congress Classification Scheme. Studies other ways of cataloguing various types of information resources (i.e. continuing resources, non-print, electronic and digital) as well as other cataloguing systems using new technologies (e.g. MARC21, Dublin Core metadata, etc.) Moreover, application of the revised International Principles of Cataloguing, Functional Requirements of Bibliographic Records (FRBR), and Resource Description and Access (RDA) will also be tackled.

LIS315K INTRODUCTION TO RECORDS MANAGEMENT AND ARCHIVES
This course deals with the concepts, principles and practices in archives and record management. It explores both the theory and practice of digital libraries in academic, research, community, government, and other settings. Topics includes definitions; digital objects (e.g. digitization processes, archiving, preservation); acquisitions and collection development; organization and representation of information (e.g., metadata, ontologies, classification, description); information architecture; information access, user behavior and interaction; services, management, and evaluation; issues (e.g. intellectual property, privacy, social, economic, sustainability); evolving technologies; and research agendas.

This course eriches problem solving and computer programming skills for students with no prior experience in the area of programming. This course covers the fundamentals of computer programming including how to write, compile and execute programs. By the end of the course students will be able to design, develop and test a moderately complex computer program to manage full text, bibliographic records or multimedia. The course prepares students for working with applications in data analytics, data science, digital libraries, text mining and knowledge management.

This course introduces the concept of developing programs and applications using web as the platform. Discussions and activities focuses on the fundamentals of Hypertext Transfer Protocol, Hypertext Markup Language, Cascading Style Sheets, Javascript / jQuery, PHP Hypertext Preprocessor and MySQL Relational Database Management System. The course culminates on the development and submission of an uploaded web-based proof-of-concept project.

This course covers principles and processes underlying the successful administration of a school library media center and academic libraries. In terms of building professional knowledge in traditional areas, this course studies the major tasks of school and academic librarians as to planning, monitoring, and evaluation of collections of academic libraries and school library media centers. Also, it explores accountability, administration, and advocacy aspects of the school librarian’s critical leadership role in the learning.
