Laird Thompson, Chaplain (Major) U.S. Army Ret. 1991-2017
Chaplain (MAJOR) Laird "CHAP" Thompson, U.S. Army Retired 1991-2017 is an Ordained & Endorsed Full Gospel Army and Health Care Chaplain with Chaplaincy Full Gospel Churches and has 28 years of ministry and leadership experience in the U.S. Army, Civilian Ministries, and Healthcare Organizations. He graduated from Oklahoma State University ROTC program in 1999 with a BA in Psychology Counseling. As a Chaplain Candidate in the Missouri Army National Guard, he earned a Masters of Divinity from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in 2007. CHAP has served in Army chapels in Germany, Kosovo, Korea, and several US Bases. His civilian ministries include: First United Methodist Church of Tulsa, OK, Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship at OK. St., Evangel Temple Church & Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. where he completed Residency of 4 Units in Clinical Pastoral Education to earn the Army Special Skill Identifier R7- Hospital Chaplain. He's ministered 8 years Clinically in 3 hospitals and 2 hospice companies. Chaplain Thompson was selected as the 2012 Hospice Health Care Champion by the Springfield Business Journal. Chap is currently Associate Staff Chaplain at Missouri University Healthcare Center in Columbia, MO. Chap was the Team Leader for a Disaster Relief Team supporting tornado, flood, and pandemic recovery efforts in through the Show Me Hope program run in partnership by MO. Dept. of Mental Health, SAMHSA, and a Community Health Agency in 4 central MO Counties. He is married to Dr. Emily Crawford-Thompson, PhD. Clinical Psychologist, and has two sons, Levi (19) and Isaiah (17). Chap works with ages 12 and up, and offers Life Coaching and Pastoral Care sessions. Session Description
Resiliency Trainings mirror, in part, the military's Combat Operational Stress Control and Master Resiliency Training and are modified to fit the Health Care Professional culture for Missouri. Following the Combat Operational Stress Continuum, Ready-Green, Reacting-Yellow. Community Health Workers will learn these Key Components of the Stress Continuum, Signs and Symptoms for each, and the corresponding Interventions. Community Health Workers would receive Training and Self-Assessment through multi-media classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, worksheets, resources list, homework, and clearly defined intervention protocols to build and sustain Resilient Community Health Workers.
