As a student in the graphic design track, you will explore the relationships between humans and their designed environments with internationally recognized faculty and peers from across design disciplines. With a focus on design theory, process, and methods related to design practice and research, graphic design students study everything from multicultural communication and visual representation of information to human interaction with designed objects.
Graphic design at the University of Minnesota will challenge you to set the pace in a field where global definitions of research, creative production, and practice are rapidly evolving. As a graphic design student, you will learn how humans perceive, interpret, and communicate and will be exposed to a wide variety of creative opportunities.
It is increasingly necessary to actively teach creative thinking skills that emphasize developing, evaluating, and implementing ideas. Strategies that support creativity such as solving problems, exploring multiple ideas, and connecting interdisciplinary concepts also lead to increases in student motivation, engagement, and academic achievement. Developing creativity skills in students promotes deeper learning, personal wellbeing, and better prepares them for future careers.
