Graduate Student Resources

The Council of Graduate Students (COGS) is an advocacy group at the University which investigates issues important to graduate students. In the past, they have lobbied to have student fees altered, asked for changes to graduate assistant rates, etc. If you have an interest in having a voice within the larger University community and having an impact on other graduate students, consider joining COGS. 

The CLA Office of Research and Graduate Programs (ORGP) offers graduate student services support regarding academic policies, program requirements, and by providing relevant data to assist with program planning and funding. CLA’s Graduate Student Services serves as a central node to learn about CLA graduate program requirements, student funding opportunities, and academic life for CLA graduate students, staff, and faculty on the Twin Cities campus.

The CLA Office of Research and Graduate Programs offers comprehensive career services for graduate students and alumni. As graduate students consider what they would like to do after their program, the CLA Graduate Student Career Services director provides confidential services including: 

• One-on-one graduate student career advising

• Effective and job search strategies

• Interview techniques and mock-interviews

• LinkedIn profile creation and enhancement

• Academic and nonacademic career exploration 

• Resume, curriculum vitae, and cover letter development

• Assistance with identifying and developing relationships with faculty, professional organizations, student groups, and employer
